Student vs. Learner
The Personalized Learning website offers some insight into changing the name of "Students" to "Learners".
We have completely changed the terminology in our classroom from "teacher" to "coach" and "student" to "learner". We took this step mid-week last week and are already seeing some major changes in some of our students.
This video led to an amazing discussion with our students.
We had our students watch the video twice and record their observations.
The short list on the far right were their responses to the question, "What knowledge do you think the Learner gains from being a Learner, not a Student?"
It has been amazing to see how our students are reacting to this video. There are two other videos in relation to the first and our students have watched those as well. They are here and here. We truly believe in our classroom, for them to have a completely personalized experience, our students need to transition into learners while we transition into coaches.
